Halloween Parade Winners Announced

An estimated crowd of 10,000 spectators enjoyed a mix of sun and clouds, floats, bands and marchers during Sunday’s 2016 Allentown Halloween Parade!

The parade, believed to be the oldest in the nation, was full of sports, video game and board game character costumes for humans and animals, with several floats adhering to the ‘Game On!’ theme.

A panel of judges evaluated participants in two categories: Floats and Marchers. Parade judges were City Council member David McGuire and Board of Recreation members Hugh Gallagher and Joni Nyemscek. Judging criteria included presentation, creativity, enthusiasm, and adhering to the theme.

Winners in the Floats category are:

Tied for 1st Place Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore
Tied for 1st Place Cub Scout Pack 146
Tied for 3rd Place Great Allentown Fair Queen
Tied for 3rd Place Cub Scout Pack 74

Winners in the Marchers category are:

1st Place Boston Terriers of the Lehigh Valley
2nd Place Mountainville Memorial Youth Association
3rd Place Phoebe Nursing Home Girl Scout Troop 6231

Winners receive monetary prizes.

Honorable mention was awarded to Lehigh Valley Rollergirls and Cub Scout Pack 58 in the Marchers category, and Allentown YMCA/YWCA in the Floats category.

Dance and performance groups HALA, XCAPE, and Small Steps, Big Dreams and marching bands receive a stipend for participating.

Parade spectators and participants are encouraged to use the facebook and twitter tag “#hallentownparade” to post their pictures from Sunday’s parade.
