Auto Theft Task Force

The Allentown Police Department assigns two specially trained Detectives to the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force.  These Detectives investigate all facets of auto theft within the City.  This includes the overall reduction of auto thefts, stolen vehicle recovery, identification and prosecution of chop shops and related activity, assistance and expertise to regional law enforcement agencies in matters of auto theft, and provides awareness to the public though local community events and training.

What is the C.A.T.?

  • FREE to Allentown Residents
  • Completely voluntary
  • Participants sign a contract which states their vehicle isn't normally driven during the hours of Midnight and 6 a.m.
  • A decal is placed in the rear window of the vehicle, which alerts Police to participation
  • The Police need no other reason to stop your vehicle if it is found operating within this time frame
  • This program is NOT for you if you routinely drive your vehicle after Midnight, or if you are NOT an Allentown resident
